New York Red Bulls U-14 (3) vs. Baltimore Armour (2)

BALTIMORE (October 3, 2015) – The Red Bulls U-14 recorded a late win on the road in windy and rainy conditions as they defeated Baltimore Armour, 3-2.

The Red Bulls started the game on the front foot, but could not break through a resolute Armour backline. In the 14th minute, Baltimore took the lead when a mis-clearance fell to an Armour player at the top of the penalty box and buried his shot into the upper corner.

New York equalized in the 36th minute when forward Scotty Taylor scored on the volley. Dylan Sullivan broke free on the flank and whipped in a low cross that Taylor volleyed from the corner of the 6-yard box into the opposite side netting past the helpless Armour goalkeeper.

In the second half, the Red Bulls controlled the tempo and possession, but found it difficult to get any clear cut chances on goal against the deep-defending Armour. However, in the 49th minute, Sullivan curled a right-footed shot into the lower right hand corner of the net off of a square pass from Kejiel Watt.

As the Red Bulls pushed to seal the game, Baltimore leveled the score in the 68th minute when a defensive miscommunication allowed the Armour forward to run onto the ball and finish past Red Bulls goalkeeper Liam Bertrand.

The Red Bulls refused to be denied the victory as Taylor scored his second goal of the game with five minutes remaining in the match. Midfielder Danny Jara sent his corner kick to the back post where Taylor volleyed into the roof of the net for the game-winner.

“It takes a total team effort to get 3 points away from home,” Co-Man of the Match Dylan Sullivan said. “We were determined to stay focused and continue to push forward until the final whistle today.”

The Red Bulls U-14 will be back in action next weekend on Saturday Oct. 10, when they take on MLS-rivals D.C. United at the Red Bulls Training Facility in Whippany, N.J.
