CHS recap 8.12.17

CHARLESTON, SC (August 12, 2017) – The visiting New York Red Bulls II (8-11-4) drew the Charleston Battery (10-5-8, 38 points), 1-1, Saturday at MUSC Stadium.

Charleston Battery struck first just before the half time whistle, as forward Romario Williams found the net past Red Bulls II goalkeeper Evan Louro for his 15th of the season on an assist from Ataulla Guerra.

Red Bulls II found their way onto the score sheet in the 72nd minute, when Stefano Bonomo scored off a deflection, into the side netting. Bonomo’s goal was his third in four games. Florian Valot assisted on the play.

Charleston’s O’brian Woodbine received his second caution in the 86th minute, giving the away side an opportunity to go home with all three points in the bag. Unfortunately, Red Bulls II could not find the net in the remaining four minutes plus stoppage time.

O’brian Woodbine’s two yellow cards contributed to a tally of six cautions in the match from referee Christopher Spivey.

Despite the result, Red Bulls II dominated possession, controlling 64.7% of the ball and registering five shots on target and 22 shots in total in comparison to Charleston’s four shots in total. Goalkeeper Evan Louro did not register a save.

With Orlando City B inactive, NYRB II sit in the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

The game also marked Dilly Duka and Fidel Escobar’s first match for the organization, both being loaned down from the first team.

The team returns to the field next Saturday at home against FC Cincinnati. Kickoff is set for 4 P.M. EST.
