When you’re competing for 12 days straight across some of the most challenging terrain in the Alps it’s not just your body that needs to be prepared for some punishment.

Athletes’ gear also takes a hammering. Being able to maintain communications in some difficult to reach locations is also key, which is why we’re delighted to announce that Bullitt Satellite is coming on board as an official race partner.

They will be supplying athletes, officials and medical teams with the rugged and reliable Cat S75 smartphone with integrated two-way satellite messaging. Built to endure, Cat phones are drop-proof, waterproof and can operate in temperature ranges of -30ºC to 75ºC for up to 24 hours. They’re also designed to survive up to 30% longer than the average smartphone.

But what makes the Cat S75 unique is that it also comes with Bullitt Satellite Messenger, a unique technology that allows athletes to send and receive text messages, check in with their location and if necessary, call SOS Assistance all via satellite, for those moments when there is no mobile phone signal. It’s a potential game-changer for safety in the mountains, meaning athletes can send – and receive – important messages at any time from their phone.

For any adventurer, having a backup means of satellite communication within their smartphone is a welcome additional safety tool. The combination of a Bullitt Satellite enabled Cat phone is therefore the logical match for the world’s toughest adventure race, says race co-founder Ulrich Grill.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Bullitt Satellite as official partner to the Red Bull X-Alps, bringing satellite messaging to the world’s toughest adventure race. Reliable communications technology is absolutely key to manage the race safely. Having a technology partner that allows officials, teams, medical and support crew to communicate 24-7 is vital. And using the Cat S75 smartphone, the world’s toughest adventure race has the perfect rugged partner.”

Athletes will be supplied with the Cat S75 and use it for official race communications via the race App. It will be used by teams to confirm their athlete is fit to fly every morning – a new rule for 2023 – and also to announce when they are taking a Night Pass.

“We’re delighted to become a partner of the world’s toughest adventure race,” says Richard Wharton, co-founder Bullitt Group. “During this incredible event, should an athlete lose mobile signal, which is very likely in the conditions and terrain they will endure, our Bullitt Satellite technology is there as backup. For the last 10 years we have been setting the standards for rugged phones both in terms of reliability and innovation and the Cat S75 offers a whole new level of resilience to mobile communications that other smartphones just can’t match. It is engineered to work under extraordinary conditions - just like Red Bull X-Alps athletes.”
