Get to know who the Red Bulls will be playing in their upcoming matchup.

How they’re doing

New York’s Atlantic Cup rival had a tough start to the 2022 season.

After winning their first two matches without conceding a goal, they then went on a four-match losing streak that saw them fire their coach Hernán Losada.

In their last six matches across all competitions, D.C. only has one win. That stretch includes a 3-0 Open Cup loss at home to the Red Bulls.

D.C. registered two clean sheets in their first two MLS league matches of the 2022 season, and has yet to keep the opponent from scoring since.

In their last match against a struggling Toronto FC, they held the lead twice before having to settle for a 2-2 draw at home.

Head to Head History

Since their first matchup on May 12, 1996, New York and D.C. have played each other 98 times across all competitions, with D.C. holding the edge with a 44-36-18 record against the Red Bulls.

In their last three MLS league matchups, New York has an 0-2-1 record and has only scored one goal against D.C.

New York is also winless at home against D.C. since 2018, with an 0-1-2 record since their last win against their Atlantic Cup rival at Red Bull Arena.

Player to Watch: Forward Taxi Fountas

With only seven MLS appearances under his belt for D.C. United, Taxiarchis “Taxi” Fountas has made an instant impact for a club looking for a spark.

In only 471 minutes, Fountas has 31 total scoring attempts, including five goals and three assists to his name. That scoring attempt total is higher than all but one New York player this season.

In his first start, Fountas made his name known, tallying two goals and an assist in a 3-2 victory over New England.

His club career began at Greece's AEK Athens before a move to Austria's Red Bull Salzburg, building toward his starring role at Rapid Vienna.

He did not appear in New York’s 3-0 victory over D.C, but he’ll definitely be a key target for the defense to consider Saturday night at Red Bull Arena.
